i know people love the fake-married-but-then-fall-in-love trop but they always do it for weird reasons and i never see the most obvious reason which is to commit tax fraud.

When you say a fandom is dead, it’s a bit of a blow to people who are still producing and enjoying work for that fandom. You’re basically saying what they’re doing doesn’t matter, doesn’t count, which might discourage them from continuing to participate.
If one person is creating content, the fandom isn’t dead.
If one person is consuming content, the fandom isn’t dead.
If two friends are chatting on skype about their OTPs, that’s fandom.
If someone doodles drawings of their favorite characters on a napkin, that’s fandom.
Just because someone is producing content for one fandom doesn’t mean they have to leave another.
Not every fandom can be the big, new, shiny and popular thing.
Not every fandom *should* be the big, new, shiny, and popular thing.
It’s okay to have small, tight-knit fandoms. They can be just as fulfilling and entertaining as the big ones.
So i’ve been reading some REALLY GOOD FANFICTION and it sort of rekindled all my love for otp and jumpstarted my long-lost creative drive so I dug this old picture up because I still really like it, and finally finished it.
So. team switch. Please consider…White Knight Sena…Devil linebacker Shin…2nd year sena vs 1st year shin. Sena inspiring Shin this time around…THe possibilities r ENDLESS!!
okay, firstly, fucking adorable. That’s what this is. I love the coloring.
And I’m VERY intrigued by the the switch trope. Like, what if they still met in passing as kids, right, and Shin goes through school in track or something, trying to be like that kid, and then Hiruma sees how strong and fast he is and KNOWS he’s going up against ES21, who’s a total twerp but WAY TOO FAST, and then Shin gets on the team and faces Sena and realizes IT’S THAT BOY! THE ONE WHO STARTED EVERYTHING AND HE PROMISES TO BECOME THE BEST LINEBACKER EVER, TO CATCH HIS SEMPAI AT LONG LAST. OMGOSH, WHAT IF HE BLUSHES AS HE SAYS IT, HIS ADORABLE EAR-BLUSHING (THAT I TOTALLY MADE UP). AND SENA’S JUST LIKE “WHAAA EH?” AND THINKS SHIN HAS A CRUSH ON HIM THE ENTIRE TIME HAHAHAHAHA
Competing access needs strike again, I guess.
I think a lot of people’s experiences of trauma have looked like “being forced to grow up too fast”. Having things they weren’t ready for pushed on them, whether that was being sexualized against their will or tasked with raising younger siblings in a parent’s absence. For those people to feel safe, they need a space where vulnerability is acknowledged and a strong boundary is maintained between dominant people and their potential victims. Hence the “I don’t care how mature she is; having sex with a 17-year-old is wrong” line of thinking. Those people’s pain is valid. Their boundaries are valid.
I think a lot of other people’s experiences of trauma have looked like “being infantilized against their will”. Things like growing up in a family that didn’t acknowledge your sexuality, or being institutionalized, or being disabled and therefore seen as a child long past the age of maturity. For those people to feel safe, they need a space where their agency is affirmed and no one will try to control them “for their own good”. Hence the “I may be young, but please believe me when I say I know what I’m doing sexually” line of thinking. Those people’s pain is valid. Their boundaries are also valid. And neither group deserves to take precedence over the other,
I, personally, fall into the latter category. My experience of abuse involved being treated like a petulant child who didn’t know her own mind or desires. I could not be in charge of my spirituality – of any aspect of my inner life, really. I couldn’t have the things I wanted; I couldn’t even be trusted to know what I wanted. And all of it, all the micromanaging, all the gaslighting, was allegedly for my own good.
So when I see statements like “having sex with a girl of X age is necessarily wrong, no matter what the girl says”, I have a very deep, very instinctive middle-finger reaction. I have had enough of being told that what I want doesn’t matter, isn’t important, and isn’t even really what I want. I can’t make my own decisions? Fucking WATCH ME.
That said, the statement “having sex with a girl of X age is necessarily wrong, no matter what the girl says” may be enormously beneficial for someone from the former group! I can absolutely see how, if someone has been sexualized against their will from a young age and groomed into wanting things they now regret, that someone might find it empowering to admit “I said I wanted it, but I wasn’t really mature enough to make that decision, and the adults in my life were at fault for that”. We just have to be mindful of splash damage to Group B, who will, predictably, prickle at the notion that what they say doesn’t matter.
It applies in non-sexual situations too. Someone from Group A, who was forced to drop out of school and raise their siblings after the death of their parents, might say something like “teenagers just aren’t capable of taking care of children. they’re still developing; they deserve to have a youth”. Meanwhile, someone from Group B, who is developmentally disabled and has fought for years to be allowed to babysit their siblings, will see that and think “fuck you, I’m just as capable as anyone else”.
I also think each group makes the mistake of projecting an abuser-centric view onto the other. Group A, for instance, might accuse Group B of secretly wanting to sexually coerce young women, while Group B might accuse Group A of wanting to sexually restrict those same young women. This is a mistake. Because both groups are speaking from their own trauma, neither is necessarily serving the needs of abusers. They are talking about what they, personally, need in order to feel safe and to extend aid to those like them, and both models are valid. We just can’t pretend that one can exclude the other.
This is relevant to a lot of the discourse.
this makes a lot of sense to me, and also explains why i crashed so dramatically into all the pedophile drama. i’m definitely a member of Group B, who chafed all my adolescence at being condescended to and controlled, and couldn’t wait to be grown up and powerful. i hated the idea that i was too young to do anything, especially anything sexual, and i admired my upperclassmen who maturely discussed smut and yaoi like they were suave experts. i had sex as soon as someone i liked was offering, at 16, and never regretted it. i was really enthusiastic about sex in my late teens, and had as much as i could. i was writing smut by the time i was 18.
so to me, 16 always seemed like a perfectly normal and healthy age for consensual age-appropriate sexual relations, and i was totally startled to find out a lot of 16 year olds disagree. i was then an idiot who realized way too late that it’s incredibly creepy for a grown woman to be arguing with teens that they are too old enough to have sex, and by the time this fact was rammed through my dense skull i had said some stuff that Group A people interpreted (incorrectly but understandably) as sexually predatory. and of course, call-out posts never include a user’s apologies or retractions…
ironically, my abuse was a kind of group C – people being rulebound and judgy in a very personal and dehumanizing way, controlling and punishing not because they wanted to infantilize me, but because they saw themselves as heroes and me as a monster. they didn’t want to make me into their baby doll or their sex toy or their ego stroker or anything at all; they wanted me to not exist.
which means the entire fucking discourse is a huge trigger to me, whichever side it’s coming from. although the anti side is much MORE triggery, seeing as they tend to play the hero/monster game.
i was seen as a monster because i’m autistic – my expressions are wrong, my tone of voice is wrong, my eye contact is wrong. pretty much everyone in my childhood except my parents, and uncountable other people through my youth and adulthood, many of them in positions of power over me, decided i was Bad or Not Real and treated me accordingly, and nothing i could do would change their minds. now roach is being seen as a monster ecause she’s been honest about her lived experience, by people who actively campaign to spread vicious rumors, and nothing anyone can say will change their minds.
it’s a NIGHTMARE.
What I’m seeing from being very deep into tumblr is that the gaze has become so academic and hypercritical that everyone’s afraid to do anything. The only way to never be “problematic” is effectively to be silent. Added to that, there’s a lot of radical feminism (not “extreme feminism” but a specific ideology separate from mainstream/liberal feminism) which is more Victorian and focuses on blaming women for the patriarchy because they weren’t perfect moral guardians. This means that all fiction is expected to serve an aspirational/inspirational function, rather than other functions stories could have, like excitement, catharsis, exploring darker parts of the psyche, etc. This means that we’re seeing a resurgence of the Utopian genre of fiction which was popular with women writers in the Victorian era, which basically exists to posit an ideal society, and equal parts inspire you to aspire towards it, and shame you for not being that perfect yet. Utopian/aspirational fiction isn’t all bad–that’s what Star Trek was, after all. But as the sole form of acceptable writing, I find that incredibly limiting.
Teach children that this is not ok
Teach children that there’s nothing wrong with this
I’m really not understanding why you think cultural appropriation would be ok, unless you are assuming that the girl in the picture is part Japanese.
Yellow face yet she’s using white makeup in the traditional style but okay.
Cultural appropriation isn’t a thing, hon. ☺️ Cultures should be shared by all means.
I disagree. The makeup is clearly reflective of traditional Geisha makeup which is yellowface and therefore racist. Furthermore, the girl is wearing a kimono, a garment that has for ages carried cultural significance. Assuming that she is white how can you think this is ok? And cultural appropriation isn’t a thing? What rock do you live under? I suggest you educate yourself on the differences between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation.
I am japanese, in japan at this very moment. The only people who think culture shouldnt be shared are racists like you.
A vast majority of Japanese people actually enjoy other people making an effort to spread and enjoy japanese culture, and encourage it. Many make businesses in deliberately taking pictures of people in kimono. A common omiage (gift) for foreigners from japanese people is traditional japanese things such as kimonos, tea seats, shisa dog statues, ect.
And to top it off, basically 80 percent of japanese customs, traditions, and food, came from other countries. Japanese is an integration of different cultures, like america. Japan takes influences from places like korea, china, russia, and europe. If japan stuck to itself, there would be no tempura, japanese tea, tea ceremonies, kabuki, japanese bread, japanese curry, j- pop, anime, cars, or modern fishing techniques. The picture is not “yellow face” they are not making fun of asians. In fact, it looks like they put extra care and research into their work.
The only reason that you have a problem with this is because that little girl is white and you know that it is acceptable on tumblr to crap all over white people. The only racist here is you.

Damn I’ve never hit reblog so fast in my entire fucking life
it’s nice to see the aggressive white knights of ethnic defenders just get slammed by the actual race they insist on speaking for, I love it
THE A DOES NOT STAND FOR ALLY. YOU CANNOT CAST OUT ASEXUALS BECAUSE “THEY’RE STRAIGHT” AND THEN ALLOW STRAIGHTS IN BY CALLING THEM ALLYS. CAN’T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO. BRUH.
no one arguing it’s supposed to be straight people. The “A is for Ally” argument is based on the idea that it exists so closeted lgbt people could participate in the community without outing themselves.
I don’t really care either way and I think lgbt+ covers it, but most people who want A to mean Ally aren’t actually arguing for straight people to be let in.No matter how often I read posts explaining this, I don’t understand it. Could you pls explain it to me?
Like, to me, there’s two scenarios:
Scenario one: straight people know ally stands for closteted people.
This scenario doesn’t make sense because it would automatically out them. So this can’t be it.Scenario Two: straight people don’t know.
In this scenario you’ll have to let straight people in the community because they’re allies. Otherwise you’d have to tell them which would out closteted people. So either you’re lying when you say that “a stands for ally” doesn’t let in straight people or you want to out closeted people to them
And why can’t closeted/questioning people just be included under the appropriate letter?
When there’s an event that includes “A for Ally”, the assumption is that not everyone at the event is necessarily LGBTQ. That way someone can get away with being parsed as “straight” because it’s not assumed that everyone there is cishet. There will also be allies that are genuinely cishet in attendance.
It’s not that “ally” always means “closeted person”, it’s that “ally” can be a catch-all for basically “everyone else as long as they’re cool with LGBTQ folks”.
So asexuals just get left out? I understand not wanting/being able to be out, but to use the A for “allies” (whether an actual ally or closeted/confused/whatever that person’s situation is) while we asexuals don’t get any recognition is pretty shitty.
I understand making allies feel included, I understand giving the cover to people that may want/need it.
BUT to leave out an entire group of people fucking sucks.
For the longest time while the lgbtqa+ was growing, I spent YEARS trying to figure out why saying I was bisexual (later pansexual) just never seemed to fit. If it weren’t for this website, I STILL wouldn’t know that I’m demisexual.
Normally I don’t get involved in things like this in case I’m misinformed, but I’m really emotional about this and I think it’s really shitty to cut out a whole group of people. I get it, the allies care, they’re supportive, I don’t want to make anyone feel unwelcome, but they’re still not lgbtqa+. (Plus, you can still be called an ally without it having to be in the acronym, that’s why they’re called ALLIES, they’re a SEPERATE group helping the main group.)
So, my point in the end is that, yes, it may help some to use the A for allies (for WHATEVER reason), but it hurts those of us that lose our representation.
(And, just so I don’t forget, not even gonna sugar coat it: I don’t give a fuck if the A was even ORIGINALLY for allies. It should be for asexuals.)
It’s not a mutually exclusive thing (most spaces I’ve been in also incluce a-spec folks), I’m just trying to explain what the deal is with “A for Ally” since an earlier post got it all jumbled.
Ally-hate is rooted in a tragic ignorance of our history and it variously breaks my heart and pisses me off. Once upon a time, being an ally wasn’t a badge straight people bragged about, it could ruin a person’s life. Supporting and protecting your out friend family member could be almost as risky as being out yourself. Allies were part of our community, they risked ostracism, loss of employment, even personal violence, to stand with us, to fight for us, to nurse our dying and bury our dead. Allies included straight parents that not only embraced their out children, but opened their hearts and homes to people whose families had rejected them. Allies included straight lawyers and politicians who worked to secure and protect our rights instead of playing it safe by turning our cases down. Allies included nurses, doctors, hospice carers who compassionately cared for HIV patients, when everyone else was afraid. Allies included people who risked everything to smuggle unapproved HIV medicines to people who needed them. Allies included celebrities and public figures who risked career suicide to advocate for us. Please, kids, learn our history.
I never “cast out” asexuals for “being straight”. If people wanna come do activism, and they’re not total assholes about it, I’m pretty much fine with that.
I got into this community identifying as “an ally” something close to 30 years ago. If you’d asked me then I woulda said I was a straight dude. (It wouldn’t have occurred to me to add the “cis” qualifier.) These days I’m gender-ambiguous, maybe a trans girl, married to a gay guy. Life’s weird.
But I will tell you straight up, I faced more hostility and more threats to my health and safety for being an “ally” in the late 80s and early 90s than I do now for being a vaguely-masculine-looking person with nail polish and a husband.

Have you thought at all about what it would be like if Gold and Red survived? What would change?
I have, anon-friend, thanks for asking! Although like I said in my last
post on Gold it’s mostly only gone to the extent of, “they’d both be
dating Furihata, and they all lived happily ever after, the end.”And
really, it’s mostly been in conjunction with the AU to the AU (that I
am NOT!! going to write!!! As someone pointed out, it’s probably best
not to go down the route of writing the Darkest Timeline) that I’ve
discussed here about an AU where they didn’t escape when they were 13
and met up with the boyfriends while they were still in Teiko. And
woohoo, that is the Darkest Timeline and best not considered, really.Although,
I do think it would be interesting if Gold *had* escaped with the rest
of the Miracles, because in does make me wonder if maybe Akashi would
have hated humans less if he hadn’t blamed them for Gold’s death. And if
Akashi had someone who grounded and supported him from the beginning,
what that might have done to the group dynamics. It’s
also fun to think about Masaomi adopting them as twins. I think he’d
really enjoy having a son who could read minds and get premonitions.
(That would mean Gold was the only Miracle who didn’t have his color in
his last name, though. So maybe he gets adopted by someone else? Or
maybe he just decides to keep his gold-themed last name despite the
adoption, just to be contrary.)In terms of
concluding “they’d both be dating Furihata” I did think it would make
sense that Gold actually pursues him first, because he would have
realized instantly that Furihata was immune (not being able to read his
mind) and probably would have approached him first. And while Akashi
might not have hated humans *as much* I always sorta figured Gold was
the more tolerant of the two, which would mean he’d be more interesting
in pursuing romance. Which is a fun thing to consider. Also,
@shortwhiteafrican brought up the fact that Kyo would completely lose his
mind at the idea of his little brother dating twin super rich athletic
gorgeous mutants, and I hadn’t even thought about that, and now that’s
all I can think about. I almost feel like this needs to happen purely so
Kyo can freak out over his previous baby brother dating murder twins.
(It’s still not going to happen, but it’s been so much fun to think
about).Thanks again for the question!!
