I read somewhere that people acroos the world, even though they hate him, think Trump is much smarter than he is because translators can’t come close to translating his gibberish, so subtitles only show a lucid and coherent version of the general gist. This is one I’ve heard; also found this and this. A lot of news orgs have talked about this because translators are having a legit crisis over this problem.
