…hey Harry Potter fans, we’re all in agreement that Dumbledore brought the Philosopher’s Stone to Hogwarts in Harry’s first year as a test to see whether Voldemort was paying attention and what sort of state he was in, now that Dumbledore’s chosen champion was old enough to hold a wand, right?

Like, Harry learns what magic is and it’s time to start moving towards the full and final destruction of Tom Riddle Junior, so Dumbledore has a chat with his long-time alchemy friend who’s been keeping this thing safe for literally six centuries straight, and ‘borrows’ the easiest source of immortality he can find as bait for a trap to lure Voldemort out into the open so Dumbledore can get the lay of the land to prep for the next seven years.  This is canon, right?

Yes, this is canon. In none of the other books is the climactic array of trials set up as a video-game dungeon perfectly tailored to the skillsets of three specific children. Hermione and Ron are drafted into this war quickly.

Draco gets so much shit for trying to kill Dumbledore but honestly who wouldn’t

Draw the three banes of creativity; Perfectionism, procrastination, and self-doubt.

Perfectionism seduces its hapless victims, stringing them along for miles on end, feeding off their draining pursuit. Many have managed to untangle themselves from its curse and with it became free.

Procrastination is a liar, telling them how Time itself revolves around them, fooling them that tomorrow will never come, but tomorrow is exactly what’s coming, leaving their victims in ruin as the sands of time evaporate before their very eyes.

Self-doubt holds its victim’s hearts hostage. Pushing pins into the hearts of its many victims, it feeds of the joy they had, leaving them hollowed husks, paranoid and indecisive.

Woah, these are so amazing to see! I’m in awe! Thank you so much for taking the time to share these with us all! I love them so much!

We need a story, amigos!

okay but like.

how are the mannequins in Wonderland even mildly sentient?  bc they clearly are a little bit, outside of “controlled by edward and lydia”.  so how are they?

unless they’re maybe a little soul-having.

unless maybe when you come to wonderland, and can’t escape, you keep getting whittled down and down until there’s just a bit of your soul left, and then edward and lydia use that to whittle down others.

so basically my theory is that edward and lydia used the animus bell to trap the souls of the people they’d all but destroyed in their mannequins and used them to trap and destroy even more people. :’D

Three simple things we all know

topherchris:

topherchris:

1. Mass shootings are a daily occurrence. We only hear about the most “newsworthy” incidents. The Mass Shooting Tracker keeps a log, and it’s horrific to take in.

2. This level of gun violence is completely preventable. We absolutely already know that gun control saves lives, no matter what a politician has told you.

3. The government can’t seriously work on this problem because the National Rifle Association will not allow it.

But we should investigate Planned Parenthood some more.

That lots of fascists and other reactionaries appear “dumb,” in that their views and positions have no relationship with historical/biological/sociological reality, doesn’t mean they have no political savvy. If anything that’s what makes them a danger, not having to remain grounded in the rules of the game that is rational public discourse. They’ve cottoned to the fact that liberal society will let them play that game without fuss anyway, even if their contribution is “there is a race war between white people and the Jews and we’ll stop at nothing to see our side win.”

I was talking with a group a few weeks ago about how fascist ideology (and right-wing ideology more broadly) is deliberately anti-rational – it appeals to cults of action and war, mythical depictions of a glorious past, and emotional manipulation through patriarchal affirmations and racial scapegoating. And then someone replied by saying “well, I agree that fascism is a dumb ideology,” which is precisely the opposite of what I was saying. Some of its adherents might be dumb but as a political strategy, it is very, very clever.

That’s the threat they pose. There are some who will actually be dumb saps and some who will just be playing the part to sneak their way into the mainstream, as they have already done; either way it’s to our detriment not to take them seriously, or to not take the steps to dismantle even the potential for them to gain any more ground than they have.

In some ways it was easier for my generation. Racism was blatant and obvious. The “Whites Only” signs let us know clearly, what we were up against. Not much has changed, but the system of lies and trickology is much more sophisticated. Today young people have to be highly informed and acutely analytical, or they will be swept up into a whirlpool of lies and deception.

Assata Shakur, Honey Magazine debut issue (1998)

My friend shared this quote with me today and I instantly remembered another great quote from Assata Shakur that I feel is crucial to be absorbed when reading the quote above “No one is going to give you the education you need to overthrow them. Nobody is going to teach you your true history, teach you your true heroes, if they know that that knowledge will help set you free”.

(via alltheblacksheep)

See this goes out to people who constantly think those of us in this generation are too sensitive or are always looking for racism when it’s just that we realize how tactics have changed…racism has never gone away they’ve just tried to change the face of the game…

After the tragic Hurricane Katrina of 2005, many individuals returned to their homes which were marked with large X’s. Some houses, abandoned or not, still bare these symbols today.

The “Katrina Cross” or X-codes were painted on the houses by the Federal Emergency Management Agency after searching the houses during the storm’s aftermath. The X-code is simple: Going clockwise, the first quadrant contains the date the house was searched. The second quadrant notes any hazards inside the house. The third quadrant notes if anyone, dead or alive, was found inside the house. The fourth quadrant identifies the rescue team that searched the house.

Some abbreviations used for the hazard quadrant:

NE-No entry

GL-Gas leak

TFW-Toxic flood water

F/W-Food and water (left for pets)

EXT-Exterior surveyed

Some abbreviations for the body count quadrant:

0A or 0D-No one found

A-Alive

D-Dead

LV-Live

DOA-Dead on Arrival

0-0-No survivors

Some abbreviations for the rescue team quadrant:

HSUS-Humane Society of the United States

NOPD-New Orleans Police Department

TX-Texas National Guard

D-Mor-Disaster Mortuary Operational Response Team

LSP-Lousiana State Police

An incomplete X or a dash signals a search in progress. An X in a square means the house is dangerous and should not be entered. A lone square signals it is safe for rescue teams to enter. A dash in a square means the house may have significant damage and should be entered with caution. An X with a filled circle in the center means the search was terminated before its completion.

Scientists learn loneliness can be deadly

  • Not only does loneliness suck, but it’s a serious health concern.
  • Studies have linked social isolation
to immune system issues, terrible sleep and high blood pressure caused
    by hardening arteries, for instance.
  • Now, a group of scientists are uncovering the details of this huge public health issue.
  • Scientists
conducted two meta-analyses examining previous research on the possible
links between loneliness and health. In the first meta-analysis, they
looked at 148 different studies and found that more social connection is
associated with a 50% reduction in the risk of early death.
  • The second
meta-analysis examined 70 studies and found that three factors — social
isolation, feelings of loneliness and living alone — were all associated
with higher risks for premature death. Read more (8/7/17)
