(these two audio tracks come from episode 14 and Kiseki no Shiai, respectively)
There are two things common in these tracks. First is how Takao ‘provokes’ Midorima (he does something that annoys the other), and the second is how Midorima reacts to it. And that’s probably the most important thing—Midorima reacting to Takao the way he does.
Midorima is usually very reserved. But here, Takao changes that. Here Midorima reveals another side of himself to Takao, the complete opposite. If you pay close attention (track one), you hear Midorima pulling Takao out of the okonomiyaki house, and then he headlocks* him and smacks him. And (track two), he actually runs after Takao after Takao tries to get away from him (what he does to make Takao scream like that, I don’t know).
Not very reserved, is it?
He could have responded with a simple ‘hmph’, or could have merely ignored Takao, but he doesn’t. He acts on it. The best thing I like about this (and my point) is Midorima being comfortable enough to act that way around Takao. Like Takao is someone he can act naturally around with. And this shows how Takao was able to get through to Midorima.
(*Album art above. Also, in Teikou, there were instances where Atsushi had, more or less, gotten on Midorima’s nerves. But you don’t see Midorima headlocking him and pulling him out of the gym. He tells him off with that little tic mark on the side of his temple. That’s it.)
I
think he definitely has the potential to be the strongest of all the
Miracles! It is my personal theory (based on evidence in canon) that
Kise is most likely going to be the strongest of all the Miracles by
their Third Year, but he’s not fully there yet.
In
the first Touou game, Kasamatsu tells Imayoshi that Kise copies because
he’s still learning/growing, so it is my personal headcanon that
Kasamatsu, at least, all along believes that Kise had the most potential
out of the entire Generation of Miracles. And I feel like out of all
the Miracles in canon (not including Kuroko), Kise had the most “growth”
as a player, in terms of from when we first see him to where he is at
the end of Extra Game, he’s “leveled up” the most in terms of skill.
I
think by the time we see him in Extra Game he acquired all the skill he
needs to be the best, but he hasn’t fully mastered the ability to keep
playing at the level in a consistent way (thus his exhaustion at the end
of the game). So, I feel for sure, by Third Year, he will have that
down and potentially be the strongest.
Although
that doesn’t take into consideration the way everyone else might grow,
too. But those are just my thoughts! My personal thoughts/headcanons
that I incorporate in a lot of various things, but still just random
musings. Thank you so much for the lovely question, anon-friend!!
