[S] Rex Duodecim Angelus – Battle of the Black King

The trolls battle to the death with their 12x prototyped Black King in living color with honest-to-god-animation. This is it, the final fight; where shit gets real and nothing, not even breeding the universe frog, takes priority over kicking the ass of the entire dersite army and it’s behemoth of a leader. 

39 months ago, the idea to animate this battle was born in the MSPA forums and against all odds, it steadily grew into the unadulterated masterpiece you see before you.

This was a volunteer project with revolving door of artists and animators, who planned, storyboarded, created assets or short animations, organized and backgrounded.  There was not a whole lot of stability during my time with the project. So I want to give a big shout out to our lead animator Takfloyd, who almost singlehandedly kept things moving forward for the last year and a half after the original crew faded away from the project; and the fantastic Elanor Pam, who likely created more art for this video than anyone else. Their relentless contributions kept us all motivated. (Also giving a little shoutout to BlackHolePA who was just so damned helpful all the time)

i got asked why i say naruto has borderline personality disorder, and i decided to just go ahead and make a Big Post about it because i think it’s really important to talk about how this much-loved protagonist hero shows the signs of a disorder that is usually highly stigmatized

(if you’re uneducated about what bpd is, here’s a basic overview – be careful of where you look for info on bpd; there are a lot of sites that provide inaccurate info that stigmatizes the disorder)

(if you’re going to yell at me about how naruto isn’t real and this post is pointless, save your efforts, because i really don’t care)

i say naruto has bpd for these main reasons:

  1. he has a fear of abandonment and a deep need for acknowledgment
  2. has what is often called a ‘favorite person’ and much of what he does is grounded in that fact. he desires acknowledgement from this person more than all others and fears their abandonment more than anyone else’s
  3. he is very emotional, and his emotions are intense and subject to quick changes
  4. he is very self-critical
  5. he is high-empathy

i’ll now go through these now in a bit more detail, and try to provide examples.

Reading this made me cry.

I’ll repeat the central takeaway; “Somewhere at Google there is a database containing 25 million books and nobody is allowed to read them.”
Beat up on Google all you want, but this is not on them. They poured an outstandingly unexpected amount of money and effort into doing this – something no one else has done mostly because it doesn’t make economical sense – managed to find a delightful way to do it legally, to books in copyright with no one to gain from that copyright, and they got shut down by a) the DOJ and b) a relative handful of authors that, in large part, were letting the perfect be the enemy of the good – who wanted it done, but not by Google.

We were this close.

My ability to proofread increases by 1000% after I hit “Submit”.

this is often because when you’ve submitted something (like fanfiction to ao3) it will be in a different font, size and framing than in your word processor. The text will look different in the new environment so your brain stops skipping what looks familiar (like a typo that has been there since the beginning).

So, tip: revise your work in a different font and size. I guarantee you’ll catch more typos and mistakes than otherwise.
