[A mom and baby otter are floating together. The baby otter is sleeping on his mom’s tummy so he’s still all dry and fluffy. She keeps giving him little otter kisses.]
folks who like to argue with gay people when we say “this character is gay/a lesbian” by saying “NO, theyre BI, here is an itemized list of every interaction theyve ever had with the opposite sex, you are committing BI ERASURE” are hilariously pathetic but the MOST pathetic are the people who think vriska is bi because she had a crush on nicolas cage
between john’s appreciation of nic cage in his dogged “heterosexual” way, vriska’s fake crush on john, and both of them using nicolas cage as a human figure they use to assert their heterosexuality by reacting to his traditionally masculine roles by respecting and mimicking him (john) and feeling swooned by him (vriska) it’s safe to say they’re both gay and their respective relationships with human actor nic cage are manifestations of their performative straightness
vriska actually wants to be a big strong hero and john thinks nic cage is fucking sexy. both do everything in their power to deny their truth up to and including dating each other for 12 minutes. they’re both gay
Stop censoring the words people are using to blacklist, you are actually exposing people to the word/subject you think you’re protecting them from. If rape is on my blacklist and you have an in depth account of rape and you used r*pe for everything, I WILL NOW BE EXPOSED TO IT because my blacklist DIDN’T BLOCK IT because YOU CHANGED THE WORD.
^^^^^^ To add: Censoring is only really necessary when it comes to a slur your cannot reclaim, but you still need to at least tag the post with the themes so anyone who has, say, antiblack violence blacklisted for instance, won’t be exposed to what it is that triggers them.
I would really appreciate it if people could reblog this instead of ignoring it because this IS becoming a wide spread problem. I have had several panic attacks over the last month due to things that are on my blacklist not being caught specifically because of people censoring the black list word. Blacklists can pick up on words inside posts, but they can’t pick up on those words when you change one or more letters to a star.
Stop censoring words in posts that aren’t slurs, you are not protecting us from exposure, you are forcibly exposing us to it. You are doing precisely the opposite of helping us.
Same with adding slashes and numbers in your tags bc xkit won’t pick it up and block it
Even if you don’t like Halloween you have to appreciate its position as the sole thing keeping Christmas from advancing even earlier into the year like a cancerous growth
thinking about the statement that all maladaptive coping mechanisms were helpful and, well, adaptive, at some point, and that they become maladaptive when the circumstance changes or when their detriments outweigh their benefits, and how the framework of “this is no longer helpful to you” is probably better than “this is a bad habit/this is bad for you.” How much better “you don’t have to live like that anymore” feels than “that’s a bad habit you picked up when you were in a bad place.” “It’s ok, you can look now,” vs “you’ve been tainted/infected/sullied by a previous bad circumstance.”
Blackhawks are bad morally, employ trash (Patrick Kane) and use said trash for their poster child though he’s (physically and sexually) violent and racist (also the NHL loves this guy because he’s American), their logo is racist, and they alienate their female fans more so than most other teams do.
Two years ago a guy, Andrew Shaw, (who is now with the Canadiens) played for the Blackhawks and used a gay slur on the ice in playoffs and was caught on camera saying it, and he’s said it multiple times without the audio picking it up.
Their goalie, Corey Crawford, also has a mask painted to resemble a chief’s headdress and people told him it was racist because he isn’t Native American or First Nations and he basically said deal with it.
The NHL loves them because they won 3 cups in 6 seasons and they can do no wrong, apparently.
In the past two years, they haven’t made it to conference finals and last year they got beat in playoffs without a single win and the goalie for the Nashville Predators had more points in three games than their roster did (goalies rarely get points).
They think they’re hot shit but they’re really just shit.
– Garrus actually being worried about his father: I lovelovelove the arc of Garrus’s relationship with his father. The man we hear about in ME3 is very different from the oppressing and stuck up person Garrus talks about in ME1. But I’d wager that it’s really not Papa Vakarian who has changed so much. Instead it shows how much Garrus has grown up and come to see his father in a new light, which in turn has transformed their relationship from exasperated parent / obstinate teenager into two people who apparently respect and trust each other to a significant degree.
I also love the fact that Garrus actually gets to resolve his daddy issues in a positive way, unlike so many other characters in the game (especially looking at you, Miranda and Jacob). And it’s not through something his father does, but through his own growth and his willingness to admit that he might actually be wrong about things sometimes (honestly, I could write a whole post just on their relationship, because it’s really such a great and interesting piece of character development).
– Garrus subtly calling out Shepard’s bullshit: He would never ever have uttered the line about platitudes in ME1, and probably not even in ME2. Of course Garrus trusts and respects Shepard, but by this point she also trusts and respects him – and he knows it. He feels comfortable calling her out, and Shepard just accepts it, because that’s what friends and partners do. (And seriously, our Lady of the Inspiring Pep-Talks could have come up with something better than “I’m sure they’re okay”, don’t you think?)
– Garrus asking about Shepard’s family: Does anyone else do this? The only one I remember is Hackett telling her that her mom is now working on the Crucible, but other than that I don’t remember a single person asking about Shepard’s family (though I might be wrong; please correct me if I’m forgetting someone). So while Shepard spends the three games asking and caring about everyone’s lives and concerns, no one really asks about hers. Except Garrus, who not only cares, but by now also feels close enough to her to ask.
– Shepard being worried about her mom: Look at that panel and tell me you don’t feel the urge to give poor Shep a big hug, I dare you. She looks so sad and worried, and it shows that her mom is apparently really important to her. Which I love, because so often mother-daughter relationships are used as a cheap source of conflict. But here it looks like our heroine actually has a close and positive relationship with her mother, who, from what little we know, also appears to be a pretty cool and admirable person in her own right. So strong and competent female character having a good relationship with her strong and competent mother = Very Good Thing.
But what really gets me about this moment is this:
That is the angle of the shot if you’re not using flycam during the conversation. So Shepard has this very personal moment of sadness and vulnerability and we are not supposed to see it. All you can see in the normal view is a hint of her shaking her head, and that’s it. So who is supposed to see it?
Garrus, that’s who. Because she trusts him so much, she can let down her guard and let him see her as a human being, and she knows that he won’t stop respecting or believing in her. Since we as the player are basically Shepard herself, you could even argue that she is willing to show Garrus a side of her that she herself doesn’t really want to face.
And finally:
– The adorable uncomfortable awkward handwringing: LOOK AT THE ADORABLE AWKWARD UNCOMFORTABLE HANDWRINGING JUST LOOK AT IT *melts into helpless puddle of Garrus-love*
And that is why my heart always and forever belongs to Spacer!Shep ❤
