So you know how energy storage is a big issue with a lot of renewable energy? Because the sun doesn’t shine at night, etc. Apparently a solution that is being seriously considered is stacking large concrete blocks up, and then unstacking them to release the stored gravitational energy.

It’s been tested, and it’s a big deal for renewable energy, but I just can’t get over how much it sounds like a videogame exploit. Some speedrunner is going to use it to glitch up to Heaven and kill God, I just know it.

“Hey hey, it’s ya boy CrzyGnostic69 here today, and I’m going to be spending the next ten years of my life stacking and unstacking these two-ton concrete blocks exactly 7942 times. That way, I can glitch directly to the Demiurge’s throne room without bothering with all that pesky metaphysics.

Skip to the end if you want to see the part where I kill him using a knife with a Roomba taped to it.”

In bigger letters for those in the back:

As a critiquer, your job is not to “make this piece of writing better” but to understand what the writer wants to achieve and help them to achieve it

Applies beyond writing as well.

Also applies to editing. I was recently talking to another writer whose editor (at a publisher) almost destroyed her desire to keep writing. Writers, know the signs of a shitty editor versus one who actually wants to help you achieve your vision, and don’t be afraid to ask for a different one. (Or fire a bad one if you’re indy.)

as much as I appreciate the fact that there are people in the Silmarillion fandom who are willing to see Melian as more culpable and responsible for various ills than the text seems to indicate, I feel like this comes at the expense of an aspect of Elu’s character that I wish more of us would explore

namely, Elwë Singollo, Monster Fucker

this guy comes upon a minor god in the woods, a god that we aren’t even told is in a recognizable human form, and his innate reaction is “I’d tap that”

then once the enchantment lifts (over them both, not just him) and his free will is back in action they immediately get to babymaking and kingdom building

not only that, it’s his descendants that are interested in interspecies romance

he’s the equivalent of a Tumblr blogger crushing on Venom, only he got his wish

you go, Elu

never stop for anything

I saw this post and then lost 2 hours and when I came too this was here

this is exactly what I meant

thank you, you wonderful human being
