Guys, the first images of Irma’s level of devastation are coming out of Barbuda and it’s heartbreaking. The President of Barbuda says that 90% of the island is uninhabitable, upwards of 60% of the TOTAL population are now homeless because the hurricane destroyed virtually every building and home on the island, and that the estimated damage is valued at no less than $200 million dollars. That’s money a small island like that doesn’t have. They’re saying it’s going to take years to rebuild and Hurricane Jose is right behind Irma on the same path which means they could be hit twice. This is just one of the islands being affected.

Please, show up for the Caribbean like you did for Houston. There is no safety net for any of these islands including mine. They’ll rely entirely on foreign aid. Find local charities or global trustworthy charities (NOT the Red Cross) and make a donation asking them to aid the Caribbean. There’s whole countries being turned into rubble with no financial means to repair their infrastructures. They’re going to need help.

For the hundreds of people replying or in my inbox asking “Why not the Red Cross?!”:

Stop wanting things to be spoonfed to you. While you waited for someone to link you to sources, you could’ve done it yourself and already donated to people who desperately need it. 

Because people are also asking where to donate instead of the Red Cross:

  4. Habitat For Humanity [83% rating on Charity Navigator // Because with islands like Barbuda 90% destroyed and French St. Martin said to be 95% destroyed then people are going to need homes built]
  5. Catholic Relief Services [90% rating on Charity Navigator // For those who would want to donate to a religious organization]

If there is a note or comments section on their donation page please do let them know that you would want your money to go to their Caribbean relief efforts. Houston and Florida have the US government backing them in whatever they will need but these islands will have very little except for these charities to fall back if they have any hope of rebuilding what seems to be entire countries in some cases. For the people who lost everything even a few bucks will go a long way. 

For the most part I would suggest staying away from privately launched GoFundMes unless you know the person directly. Ultimately, you just never know where those funds are going to end up and if your money will be used wisely. Sure, the same can be said for charity organizations but at least there is a better shot at possibly helping through them. The five listed above are world known and have been studied by charity oversight organizations. It’s as close to perfect as we’re going to get.

instead of thinking about it in terms of predator and prey, I think it’s easier to view it as a preference for devouring, versus being devoured. just because you want to devour someone in one situation doesn’t mean you can’t yearn to be devoured in another, right?

but let’s consider the ouroboros for a moment – the snake devouring its own tail. in that kind of situation, the snake has become its own prey. it is being devoured to the precise degree that it devours. you could say that it has achieved vore equilibrium – the point at which the desire to destroy is equal to the desire to be destroyed.

and why do people generally find vore appealing? for those who want to be devoured, it’s the fantasy of returning to the womb, melting away into physical unity with the devourer, dying as an individual and becoming food for something greater, yielding totally to authority. for those who want to devour, however, what is the appeal? desire for the beloved so strong it could kill them. the fantasy of total dominance. the desire to possess totally. demanding that the lives of others be subordinate to your own. the thrill of hunting and overwhelming something weaker. the fantasy of being the ultimate apex predator. sadism that is willing to kill.

but it isn’t always clear-cut like that. there’s vore in which the party being consumed is dominant – for example, a goo creature oozing down the throat of something and using its body as a vehicle/controlling it from within. there’s also vore in which the devourer is submissive. the line between “eating and being eaten” almost vanishes altogether in the niche branches of vore (anal vore, unbirthing, etc). instead of devouring or being devoured, it’s about the desire to be full and the desire to fill.

but what about the population that identifies with both?

what if the predator and the prey have no boundary between them? what if the devourer and the devoured are simply competing sides of the same organism? we started out discussing the predator as the Other/object of desire, and then we spoke of the prey as the other/object; but what if both are the Self, struggling against itself – two halves of the same inseparable nature?

which brings us back to the notion of the ouroboros.

There are more than two sexualities and this is a fact that most people (even on Tumblr nowadays) forget. People tend to assume that since someone is with a person of the same gender, they’re gay. (Or vice versa in Angelina or P!nk’s case) This is incorrect to assume because you’re erasing their identities in the process. The people on this list aren’t gay or straight, they’re bisexual. A psychic vigilante who can alter peoples brains with a single touch uses his power to deliver the ultimate punishment upon evil psychopaths: empathy.

as long as they stick to the evil ones, i guess that’s okay by me? probably sucks to be them, though, haha.

fuck, what a terrifying power. imagine if they just went around ‘curing’ people at random. “hey, this person on the bus has the aura of a sociopath, i’d better give them empathy so they don’t do murders.” a couple hours later: a surgeon has a sobbing breakdown in the middle of a tumor removal because oh shit this is a human being we’ve got flayed open here and it feels so wrong.

all proud of themself for ‘fixing’ people, the vigilante leaves devastation in their wake. people with adhd keep taking their usual meds, not knowing why they’ve gotten so excitable lately, and end up addicted to amphetamines. autistics find no joy in their special interests anymore, and don’t know what to do with this terrifying onslaught of metadata in every face and voice, nor why their senses seem so dulled; when they describe their new symptoms to a therapist, the conclusion is early stage schizophrenia, but antipsychotics don’t help.

the vigilante doesn’t realize what they’ve been doing until they try to help their next door neighbor, an elderly woman soldiering along despite a number of deteriorating conditions. they notice she’s got depression too, and think, “well, at least i can help with that part.” one touch, and her brain chemical balance is restored. the dull fog of apathy and executive dysfunction is blown away by winds of clarity and self-direction.

clear-headed for the first time in years, she takes stock of her situation, gets in her car, and drives off a bridge.

the vigilante succumbs to self-doubt, their internal monologue full of melodrama about ‘playing god’ and ‘meddling’ and vows to give up heroing. they remove their glove for one final act: they touch their own head, intending to delete their power. but as soon as they reach for their mind, it becomes apparent: the narcissism that allowed them to think they had the right to change minds by force. what if they just took hold of that and… *pop!*

“oh!” the ex-vigilante says, and starts to laugh and cry at the same time. “i should’ve done that first. why didn’t i do that first?”

several years later, now in posession of a freshly minted psychology degree, the former vigilante begins a new life as a counsellor. on the palm of their power hand, to remind them whenever they take the glove off, is a word tattooed in bold type:
